Last weekend was the State Road 38 yard sale. I found a few items including this wood pen craft kit......and a bottle of Lourdes Water. Actually I didn't pay for these items. I bought some other little things and the owners threw these in. I guess they thought I should have them. I've already started to make the wooden pen and I think I'll sprinkle some Lourdes water around the farm. . . . . .
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Lourdes water is water which flows from a spring in the Grotto of Massabielle in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, France. The location of the spring was described to Bernadette Soubirous by an apparition of Our Lady of Lourdes on 25 February 1858. Since that time many thousands of pilgrims to Lourdes have followed the instruction of Our Lady of Lourdes to "drink at the spring and wash in it".
Although never formally encouraged by the Church, Lourdes water has become a focus of devotion to the Virgin Mary at Lourdes. Since the apparitions, many people have claimed to have been cured by drinking or bathing in it, and the Lourdes authorities provide it free of charge to any who ask for it. - I'm hoping for some miracles here on the farm.
Sieze the day.
What is the State Road 38 yard sale?
ReplyDeleteIn regards to your earlier post about the guy who took your money and ran... WHAT?! I see you have a strapping son. Perhaps he needs to go knock on this guy's door every day until he coughs up!
I also think a pick-UR-own mushie farm sounds great. I'd spend an afternoon doing that. I love mushies. Set up a hot-cocoa and donut stand too during the picking season. And if you've got that many on the farm, can you sell them to local gourmet shops or gourmet foodstore chains? There must be a market for that kind of thing. What about local chefs?
In Australia, it's wintery (a "frigid" 50 degrees!) and raining. Our roof is leaking the same as last winter. Our landlord doesn't really think it's that much of an inconvenience to just have buckets all over our living room. I personally don't really enjoy watching a movie to the sound of "drip, drip, drip" or having to move all our furniture at ridiculous angles to avoid getting wet while "relaxing" at home.
But I must be sneaky, because what I do is call him up and make the leaky roof sound VERY bad, (i.e. he'd better fix it fast or he'll loose the whole roof) and he sends someone over to patch it up in a day or two. But the patches just wear away evey year, and every May, it' bucketsville again.
I tell my step-daughter it's like camping and to enjoy the experience.
Doing another sweat lodge tomorrow. I haven't decided if I will fast for the full 24 hours this time or not. Sometimes I think that it's not really necessary to suffer THAT much in one day. There will be 12 of us crammed into the lodge this time, and believe me, 3-4 hours sitting cross legged in that kind of heat is pretty bad. Maybe I'll fast for 12 hours instead...
Also going to another blind-folded trance dance class tonight. Boy is that fun!!
The State Road 38 yard sale is a weekend designated for everyone across the state who lives on or close to US State Road 38 to hold a rummage, garage, yard, or barn sale. Prospective buyers take that route for a plethora of wonderful offerings.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately mushroom season is short-lived, 3-4 weeks. Also, some years aren't very productive. I heard rumors that my son did sell some in previous years to the local bars. I can't get people to pay me the money the owe me, so I doubt they would pay for this.
For example, that guy who took my money. He is being very evasive. I think he gave the cops a phony address when they confronted him at a local gas station. They "suggested" that he call me and repay. Actually, the neighbors found out that his house is in foreclosure and no one knows for sure where he lives. Sounds like he is a very desperate man. . . things are only going to get worse for him. You know, "Oh, what a terrible web we weave when first we practice to deceive."
Sorry about your leaky roof. I like your "camping" take on the situation. I pretend I am on the Tv Show Survivor when I have to go to the fields and hack down weeds around the little trees that are trying to get established.
The blindfolded trance dance sounds interesting and fun. Of course, sweat lodge - great experience. Enjoy it all!
