My message for 8/8/14

Switch Hitter - Eleven of Wands/Page of Clubs -  Changing Creatively: Making changes especially in yourself.

It is 6:oo a.m. and I am supposed to be having a yard sale today!  I don't have signs or change money.  Did I mention nothing is priced and it is supposed to rain.  Got to get moving.  A quick trip into town................results later.

Also have a bid in on a book and deck of cards dealing with Herbs.  Got my fingers crossed I remain the high bidder without having to make a higher bid.

8/6/14

My message from the Doreen Virtue Magical Unicorns Oracle Deck is very fitting.  I have been "pet-free" for quite some time and had no intentions of ever getting another animal.  However, after moving the renter out, I started feeding his abandoned cat!  She is an old cat - maybe 10.  I just read about someone losing their cat who was 18!  Oh, no!

Libra Daily Message:
Pets

Quick message: You love and understand animals.

This card is a message from all animals and your own pets to let you know how much they appreciate you. Spend more time with animals, as they help you feel a sense of love that’s safe and sweet. Animals also help you play and have fun. So, take you dog (or a neighbour's) for a long walk, pet a kitten, feed some wild birds, or brush your little animal friend. And be sure to give your pet fresh water and food every day.

New Moon Ritual

The following information furnished thru:

Moon Rituals

New Moon Manifestation Ceremony

The new moon is the birthing cycle of the moon's various phases. Are you ready to attract your heartfelt longings by doing a moon ritual focused on manifestation? The new moon phase is an optimal time for planning and seeding your intentions. Seedlings need a period of gestation before they break through the soil and reach for the sunlight. This is also true for our cultivating our ideas and clearing the way for our visions to surface in reality. The dark side of the moon, with its mysterious unseen forces, offers a nurturing environment where our intentions can establish roots before their miraculous manifestations begin to sprout and reach out to the stars.

Moon Ritual for Birthing Your Wishes and Desires

Begin by setting aside a few minutes each month during the new moon phase to focus on your wishes. This will help give you clarity of mind and fill your heart with promise. When it comes to setting goals or planning ahead for your future there is no better time to get started than during the new moon. Any intentions stated or written down also carries power, so please take care in considering those things that you truly want. The saying "Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it." is fair warning whenever setting your new moon intentions into motion. But, no worries. The moon has its phases and so do our individual wants and needs. This is why it is a good practice to rededicate your list of intentions each month when another new moon cycle returns for a visit.

Prep for Upcoming New Moon Manifestation

  1. Check a moon phase calendar for the next upcoming new moon.
  2. Set aside 20-30 minutes to do the ritual itself.
  3. Supply suggestions:
    • notebooks
    • pen and colored markers
    • scissors
    • scotch tape
    • candle
    • matches
    • incense
    • smudge sticks
    • meditation CDs
  4. Prepare yourself a sacred space where your will perform the ceremony when the new moon arrives.

Setting your New Moon Intentions in Motion

  1. Cleanse your sacred area with an opening prayer, a sage smudging, and/or by burning some incense.

  2. Light one or more candles.

  3. Center your being and calm yourself in whatever way is appropriate for you. Take some deep cleansing breaths, slip in a meditation CD to listen to, and/or leisurely sip on a cup of relaxing herbal tea.

Rededicating your New Moon Intentions

Each month at the new moon rededicate your intentions by renewing your list at a repeated ritual. This is accomplished by rewriting your list out using a fresh sheet of paper. Please don't get in the habit of simply scratching out the items you no longer desire and simply adding the new stuff to the bottom of your old list. You don't want clutter and sloppiness energies messing up the path meant to deliver new stuff into your life do you? Disregard any items that no longer feed your soul and add new things which will.
It is helpful to salt and pepper your manifest list with smaller items that will manifest quickly, such as tickets to the ballet, lunch with a friend, or a day at the spa. You may think that smaller things are too trivial to put on your intention list... Wrong! Things that tend to manifest with less effort still deserve to be written down. Write down everything that you desire, no matter how little or simple. If it is something that makes you happy, write it down. Manifesting smaller items on our lists actually creates a steady flow of chi giving your list a boost. These smaller manifestations create movement, allowing an ebb and flow of the tides. We are dealing here with the moon cycles after all. Besides, sometimes we forget to appreciate the smaller pleasures in our lives while we are waiting for the BIG stuff to come in. If you only write statements like, "I want to win the lottery" in your notebook then you are limiting yourself by not allowing abundance to flow to you from a multitude of avenues.

A quote from Claude Medford Jr., Choctaw-Apache artist, basketweaver, historian, Louisiana, 1982

I don't know why these traditions mean so much to me, more than my own life.  I don't know what childhood incident, if any, programmed me in this direction, but if I am not doing these things, making these things, speaking of these things, I feel as if I don't exist.

I get those feelings, stronger at some times than others.  Perhaps that is why I keep this Medicine Wheel at the farm. It changes from year to year, sometimes more stones, sometimes tokens for the spirit keepers or elemental clans.  This is the 2014 version with stones  the four directions and a Creator Center stone.

Thanksgiving Turkey Breast Recipe

It has been such a long time since I have used this blog.  I am making the following recipe this Thanksgiving season.  I decided it might be a good idea to post it to this blog since it came from a 1987 magazine.  I have safely kept it in the back of my cookbook all this time but putting it here for backup.

Maple Glazed Turkey Breast with Savory Sausage Stuffing

1-16oz pkg cornbread mix
1 whole boneless turkey breast, about 4#
1 pound hot Italian sausages, casings removed
1 large egg
1 tsp fennel seed, crushed
1 Tbsp maple syrup

Prepare cornbread mix according to package directions; cool.  Crumble enough cornbread to make 3 cups crumbs; set remaining cornbread aside for other use.  Reserve crumbs.

Prepare turkey breast: Heat ovento 325.  Place turkey breast, skin side down, on work surface; press out flat.  Using meat mallet or dull side of large heavy knife, pound breast to uniform thickness of about ¾”.  Set aside.

Prepare stuffing: in 12-inch skillet over medium heat, cook sausage meat about 10 minutes until well browned, stirring frequently to break meat up.  Drain well; place in large bowl along with cornbread, egg, fennel seed and ½ cup water, toss to mix well.

To assemble:  Spoon stuffing evenly over turkey breast. Starting at one sideedge, carefully roll breast up, jelly-roll fashion; fasten with skewers or string.  Place breast, seam side down, on rack in open roasting pan; roast about 1-1/2 hours until cooked through and juices run clear when breast is pierced with knife, brushing with maple syrup during last 10 minutes of roasting time.  Remove to serving platter; let stand 5 – 10 minutes before slicing.

Prepare Old time Pan Gravy.

Scrape pan in which turkey breast was cooked to loosen brown bits; tilt pan and pour off fat and drippings into 2 cup glass measure/  Let fat rise to surface.  Skim off 3 Tbsp fat and place in 1-qt saucepan; discard remaining fat.  Add water to drippings left in measure to make 1 ½ cup; set aside.  Set saucepan with fat over medium-high heat; stir in 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour until blended and smooth.  Stir in reserved drippings and water and salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.  Bring to boil stirring constantly.  Cook 1 minute longer.

I think I will put this on my to-do list......

Second Saturday, Oct. 12th
This will be our final day to be open in 2013!  We have a busy day planned, and hope you will join us.  First of all, all perennials are 20% off.  And, there are some plants that I just won’t have room for over the winter, so they’ll be free to customers who make a purchase.
I’ve decided to return the Cottage to a style I prefer, so all the non-herbal primitive inventory is 50% off, and there will be some sale items in the Big Barn Gift shop as well. And, we just received a new shipment of “Herbal Passions.”
It’s that time of year to start thinking of moving plants indoors for the winter, and some of those scented geraniums are just too big for the windowsill.  Well, we’ll show you what to do with all those leaves and stems that need trimming in a talk at 11:00, “Using Those Great Scented Geraniums” in cooking & crafts.
At 1:00 see “The Floriade & Keukenhof!” presentation.  Gorgeous photos from my trip to the once-every-ten-years world’s largest horticultural show, and the fabulous tulip festival held annually in Holland.
Our make it/take it project for the day is “Herbal Incense!”  Of course, we’ll be serving some very special complimentary herbal refreshments.
It’s your final opportunity to purchase items at the farm in 2013.   Get your holiday shopping done early and stock up on herbal supplies you’ll need this winter, like essential oils to make sniffy bags for those nasty head colds, hops to help you sleep when you’ve listened to too many news reports, and repellent pennyroyal for when the fleas decided to spend winter with you and your pet!  Hours are 10-4.
